whenever I switch my lights on - sidelights, or dipped/full beam - the temp gauge goes up. goes up a little bit for sidelights and even more, as in into the red, when the headlights are dipped or full. I'm guessing there's a dodgy earth somewhere and have checked the chassis and gearbox earths that go to the battery, as well as the earth for the spotlights.

any other earth points that I don't know about? or other suggestions? I shat myself the other night when I was driving with all the lights on and my eye caught the temp gauge well into the red

I had a similar problem last year and after checking all the existing earths cured it by running a new earth (25sq mm) from the main earth point on the chassis to an earth point on the bulkhead and from there a smaller earth to the back of the clocks.
Initially I had thought I had an overheating problem but after a while I noticed how it manifested itself whenever the heater was used.
The fact that cleaning the earth points didn't cure it leads me to suspect a dodgy cable hence why I replaced it completely.
