A previous owner has removed all the insulation from the underside of the bonnet of my S3 resulting in the bonnet getting really hot. My question is, will this be detrimental to carrying the spare wheel up front. -I don't want to find myself stuck out in the sticks with a par-melted or prematurely perished spare! Any input re. this would be muchly appreciated.

I didn't know there was insulation under the bonnet on a series landy, as mine hasn't got any either nor does it look like there ever was any. I wouldn't have though that radiant heat from the engine would damage a tyre any more than sunlight.

i cant remember any insulation under the series bonnet either.
if you are concerned, stick some tinfoil under the bonnet.
thatll reflect the heat away from the spare wheel/tyre.

Thanks chaps/chicks. -The only reason I questioned it was beacause there are remnants of tape/adhesive on the underside of the bonnet, so I 'assumed' that there was originally something under there. -Top off & hot rubber for me it is then!

Your bonnet should not get too hot for the tyre, if it is then there must be something overheating.

I was under the impression that the insulation under the bonnet was only for sound insulation, to cut down on engine noise.
