Hi All,

Not very happy.....

Yesterday evening had a Black Taxi hit me near enough head on.....spun me abit into a solid rock wall raised flower bed...

My question is how much is my car worth? By the book (Insurance Value)

Its a X Reg 2000 P38 Diesel Auto done 99,000miles in Light Blue. Was in A1 Condition.

This was not my fault so should be all good, just worried they may write it off as the said the max claim is 60% of the vehicles value.

The damage is dents all down drivers side panels and front bumper. Also looks like some major damage to Axle as the rear wheels look like they have shifted 2inch across. 2 busted alloys and two ripped tyres, oh and an side impact airbag out the seat...!!

I will post pics soon...

If they want to write it off, tell them you want the salvage back, you'll have to pay for it, but offer them peanuts for it.

Given what you have said I would expect them to say it's a write-off tbh! It's then down to you; if you really want to keep it, ask for salvage rights, about 5% of value and NEVER accept 1st offer..........look around, find a similar spec, condition, mileage vehicle (at STEALER not private) to use as the bench-mark! So long as Cat D or C write-off it will not detract too much from resale value when eventually you do sell on. Repair with new/used bits and ur back on the road!
If you can get full repair at 3rd party cost...........grab it!

Thanx guys!

A few pics to look at.......i think its worst than it looks in the pictures.....

Possible cat C uneconomic repair. They will take log book. It will need a MOT and VIC check before they issue a new V5.

they dont need to take log book - they just flag it to the DVLA.
I still have the log book for the "convertable", but cant tax it or sorn it - says "insurance flagged" on website.

If a Cat D or C you just need new MOT, V5 kept by you , but is logged at DVLA. Will then show on searches as a previous write-off. D or C Cosmetic, i.e. beyond "economical repair" but that's based om new colour coded parts from stealer. If u get salvage rights might easily repair at 10th of Insurance!!! If ever B or A walk away - structrural and dangerous!!

bollix - mine is cat "B" - it just aint gotta roof

Police were happy for me to drive it - just not on public roads as the seat belts had been cut - and no windscreen .

The flag cancels the V5. They will not issue a new one until it has had an MOT to prove it roadworthy and VIC check by VOSA to make sure it is not a cut and shut or been ringed. If it's a cat D don't think that applies.

cat b ,cant go back on the road, only used for spare parts
cat c ,logged on new v5 as acident damaged ,needs vic check, mot,on hpi register
cat d,logged on hpi register, dont need a vic check
looks like it will be a cat c ,buy it back and do the repairs yourself, wont be too expensive to fix

Thanks for the CAT Info.

Just cause i'm thick, but if they write it off, they'll pay me out "x" amount, i can then buy it back and fix it hopefully within my "x" amount payoff. Do the checks and paperwork and all good?

Still fingers crossed they might repair it.

Got a J Reg 3.9 that i bust a core plug on about 18months ago, fixed that and now it just runs ruff. it defo needs a Battery as it has been sitting for ages. i am no good at mechanics so there could be more.

Apart from that just Tax, MOT and Insurance.

Oh and the 6inch of snow over it!!

Rear wheels out of line will most likely be the panhard rod looking at the wheel damage. About £70 including prefitted bushes. Easy job, no adjustments Worst bit to fix is the bloody seat squab, I ended up hand stitching mine when the side airbag blew. I've no intention of re-fitting the side airbag as it blew out into the rear so was useless, I've disconnected the other one. You will also need to replace the SRS ECU as a fired airbag fault cannot be reset by accessing the SRS ECU. I might have more info on re-setting the SRS ECU soon.
Salvage value might be as little as 3% if you haggle.

Why bother just buy another one with the payout. If you repair it, when you want to sell it people will HPI it , see its a write of and find another ( i would). They wont go into details to see whats happens , they will just see "write off" and walk away!

Cant
