Home made recovery point - how long will it last?

My bumper had the 5 holes already in it, and a kind of U-shaped support plate that has the 2 long bolts going down through the crossmember (towball mount?)

What do you think then? How long until I break it LOL. It's a 10mm Stainless plate you can see there bolted with 4xM12 (19mm) bolts into the plate behind the bumper.

I went for a smaller shackle (5/8" pin) to leave more meat on the pin...

I'd like to see the shape of the bumper after some good yankin on that bugger!

Mmm! may need a bit of re-enforcement before ya try any sort of recovery with it.

A picture of the underside would help.

OK, I need to explain - the pin has a shoulder that pulls against the 10mm plate. That is bolted through the 5mm bumper into a bent 5mm plate that goes from the top to the bottom of the cross member and two big bolts go right through the end of the plate, then the x-member, then the other end of the plate.

i treid that but there were just pics of landies.. no trucks at all..

Recovery point should be fine, after all if it fails, it the good Samaritan recovering you who gets killed, not you.

OK, so used it a few times on the weekend all with no problems. Acted as an anchor for a stuck Disco, and snatched out a big Mitsi thing.

Those of you saying it won't be any good - I'm curious to know what you are basing your thoughts on? Perhaps you can tell me what part you think might fail? And under what circumstances?

LOL. Truck gets the maximum allowed 500 hits in a search on this website, so unless I've missed the 'big rig' forum on the index, you are looking like the odd one out

How do you figure that out. After all it's probably a hell of a lot stronger than jate ring or a rusty defenders crossmember.

I said if it fails. The rope will then propel the broken bit of tow hitch towards the other vehicle, so you don't need to worry.

More likely to snap the others recovery point off 1st and end up with his tow ball in ya chops if yu's stoopid or a huge dent in ya Bonnet if yu'd been sensible.

I am looking for something just like this to replace the Plough on the back of my 300 disco.

Scrapian Racing used to do one just like it, my friend has one, but dont anymore. the inner plate bolts through the cross member from above right? so the outer one is attached to both the bumper and the cross member?

Can you post some more detailed pics??

Do you already have the bracket to go behind the bumper? It was already fitted to mine - I guess it was supplied with the uprated bumper?
