home made cooling fans? how easy??

was wonderin that, if i went for twin 12" fans would 1 keep me motor cool enough mosta the time? like i said earlier it always stays in middle of the guage at the mo but last thing i wanna do is cook me nearly new motor:eek:

It just means that the thermo switched fan would be running a little more often when at very slow speeds or standstill. The fan isn't needed at all when moving at speed.
 
ok, you've talked me into trying it, as soon as i get a chance i'm off to the scrappy with a few quid and a tape measure:D i cant wait to get rid of the big noisy viscous thingy :D

If you are limited for space or cannot find a suitable twin fan setup. The other option is to use a single fan behind the rad and a smaller condensor type fan on the outside of the rad.
 
I rigged this up today. Shifts a heck of a lot of air :)

Can't remember, picked it up from somewhere or other. Got a pair of them actually, the other is going on the Series 2. Not looking forward to the day I attempt to release the bonnet, and forget the fan is on! Its only a matter of time hehe.
 
i just take the viscous fan off in winter, keep it in the boot with a large pair of pipe grips, takes about 30 seconds to put back on if needs be, it takes longer to get the bonnet up and back down than to refit the fan
