That's because that replacement pillar is really meant for a defender.The hole is for wiring. it will probably still fit okay.

Any pics of what you've had in the past? This one looks to fit ok so far despite having some concessions to fit Defenders too and some differences in the profile there where the wing bolts on. It's sold as suitable for "Series and Defender" by Bearmach:

They do look deep don't they. I'lll see how it goes. Hopefully the worst case will be some spacers or washers on the wing bolt before it enters the clip on the door pillar. All new to me and learning a lot already.
