Although I was told by the dealer that "you'll never use it" he did give me a quick demo but I didn't really take it on board.

Put simply can anyone tell me what it's for  and how to engage it.

Thanks.

Its sort of abs in reverse. It instantly applies braking to individual wheels as you descend a hill. However if you use it alot you'll go through discs at a rate of knots.its the yeallow switch on the gearstick

low gear ie 1st, off all pedals, away yer go.Very clever stuff(although ive never used it in a frebie, ive used it in rangies-exactly the same)

Very useful off road, on road it needs to be steeper than 1 in 4, or it will just be too slow.
Press the yellow button, or lift the collar on the gear lever, select 1st gear, or reverse if your going backwards, and take you feet off all the pedals. You can leave it selected all the time, if you are not in 1st/reverse the light will flash, and nothing will happen.
Brilliant off road or in snow.

Not quite the same, in the Range Rover it will work in all gears, as long as you are below about 30 mph.
On later models, ones with Terrain Response, it has got far more sophisticated, with such features as being able to adjust the target speed with the cruise control buttons.

just come down a ste-e-e-p public road covered in compacted snow/ice in my 04 td4 f/lander, ABS started to struggle so engaged HDC (quick!) for the 1st time since i've owned it.......feels strange at 1st but got things sorted..... fan-bloody-tastic, well impressed

I had some fun on snow bound lanes yesterday - all works very well and seemed very sure footed. My missus has gone off to a work in ours today - I new there was a reason i had to have a 4x4. The more I get to know my FL 1 the more i like it (and its slightly odd moments). I think the upgrade to the newer front and rear is a no brainy if I can scrape the pennies together. Regards.
