Hill Descent Control

Hi all!

My first ever post on here!

My Dad's just got a new job and as part of it get a company Freelander. Getting a 2002, 02 reg Station Wagon.

He's not received it yet - just need to know a few things though before i get it as i'll be insured to use it - nice weekend toy!

Will it have hill descent control? Is this standard, an option or totally not available??

Is it any good on the Freelander? I took an X5 out last year and the guy taking me worked for both LR and BMW as a pro driver - he said that the LR's were good cars but the HDC was not as good on them as on the BMW as they LR's were very noisy. Is this right?? It was a BMW-sponsored day so maybe he was being paid to say that?!

Looking forward to getting out and about in it anyway.

The early systems before 2001 were noisier but worked very well. Used my mine yesterday and it was fantastic, great fun!!!! BMW pinched the idea off Land Rover !!!

Yeah, remember that. Buy rover, strip out all the good bits and then sell it off to Towers and Co, who were pretending that they know what they're doing!?

Where do you use yours Rintin?? Proper off-roading or softish stuff??

Want to take my Dad's out but don't want to damage it with it being a company car. Can get it muddy but no scratches or dents. When i took an X5 out last year, it was great and not a scratch on the car when i finished - but with my Dad's car - and knowing my luck!.........

He's been promised a new Discovery at the end of the year so may see if i can buy the Freelander off them then and do to it what i want!!

Can't wait now! May have to buy something as a go between now and then. LR's seem a little too dear at the moment with a wedding fast approaching but I've seen a lot of £500 Suzuki SJ's doing crazy stuff on the internet! May have to get one of them as my off-road 'LEARNER' car!!

Perhaps someone can help?? My HDC warning light is iluminated continually. The vehicle seems to drive fine but it is an anoying problem. Does anybody have a fix? Cheers.

You will need to get it plugged into testbook to find and clear the fault.

The HDC is fantastic on the Freelander, especially when you want to slow down quickly without locking up and touching the brakes.

It will take some practice to get used to it but after a while i became very competant with it's use.

It has been mentioned to check the ABS sensor. Does anybody have experience of this sensor failing and how to get to it?
