Hi people.
I'm sorry that I know I've seen this before posted on here, but it didnt seem like there was definite answers to this.
I like others seem to have no reason why these warning lights have come on. I was I have no problems with the traction control, and abs and the well the hill decent broke years and years ago, so no change with that.
I have the 1.8 petral, 2004.
It came on a week ago, so definitely turned it on and off a few times.
I've had to convert it to 2 wheel drive 6months again, and when in the bad weather, and the wheel loose grip for the 2 second, the hand brake light comes on.
Any idea on what the actually fix is for this please?

Three Amigos is the name of your problem. Each one indicates a sensor or switch problem. ABS is a ring sensor that wear our. HDC will be a yellow switch on the Gearstick going down into the gaiter. Now depending on age of Freelander and when last serviced. The brake pedal arm have a switch that fails. You can check by having someone check your brakelights as you press them. ABS is the harder of the two to replace as you will need the wheel off. But first like many will mention is to get a diagnostic reading first to find out which has fail on ABS.

If the HB light come on after TC has activated, then I suggest you check the brake fluid level.

However TC won't activate, if there's an issue with the ABS system, which is what you seem to be suggesting. More detailed information is needed really.

The car is 2004.
I dont believe any of them has any faults.
The breaks work fine, the TC works fine, and hill decent hasn't worked for at least 5 years that I know of.
I would think there is something else gone wrong that has made these error lights come up, not the actual errors it thinks its showing.
It was in a garage about 1 month before these faults came on, and everything seem to all.be ok to pass an MOT.

Until you get the fault codes read you are only guessing.

How do you know the TC works fine? (or the ABS for that matter)

TC kicks in infrequently on a 4WD Freelander, but as you've found, is more likely to kick in when 2WD. I do not believe TC will kick in when 1 axle is turning faster than the other - eg spinning up the front wheels when 2WD, but it definitely will kick in if you just spin up 1 of the wheels - I get it cutting in when I drive my 2WD Freelander on uneven stoney river beds. So, how do you know that TC has been activated and how do you know it worked? When the TC kicks in on my Wabco system the TC light flashes on and I can hear the ABS modulator thumping rapidly. I presume that would happen with the Teves system in your car as well. However, you're TC light won't come on because it is already illuminated - so the system has detected a fault and disabled it. Even if you hear the thumping, that doesn't necessarily mean it is working as the valves in the modulator may be knackered - that may be what the code is that will be returned.

Both times I've had the 3 Amigos it has been the shuttle valves in the modulator that have been broke - I believe that fault though is predominantly in the Wabco system - but I'm sure there are others for the Teves system.

Until you get the codes read you do not know what is wrong. You won't get the codes with a "standard" ODBII dongle either - that is just for engine codes. You need a device that can talk to the Freelander's ABS ECU. I just take the car along to my local indie LR garage and they plug their kit in and tell me what the codes are. After fixing it I can take it back to them to clear the fault if it doesn't automatically clear. They don't charge much - its cheaper for me to do that than buy my own device.

Where I live there is gravel on 1 side of the road, I noticed as soon as I made it 2 wheel drive, the left wheel will always spin, then TC kicks in and the car sets off.
Similar with ABS, you can feel it not locking up, With farm veicals leaving mud all over the road. Could do with it still been 4 wheel drive.
But yer I will have to get it booked in at a garage.

You need to buy a code reader (about £100) that reads the ABS module, as this will point you in the right direction. Or pay a garage to read the codes, then go from there.
