is this noise developing recently? mine whines a bit from the transfer box on overrun but it's never been something that's concerned me since I had it..

I would recommend dropping and replacing your transfer box oil and seeing what it looks like, and what's stuck to the magnetic plug, but then again, I recommend doing that with all your oils

noise on over run is usualy diff pinion bearings ,but can also be play in intermediate gear cluster in transfer box ,removing sump and feeling for free play (in gear sides ways )play can be adjusted "just out"by tightening nut

I've just put a new input gear in mine was I'm having the same problem.
I don't have to spend my birthday pulling it all apart now.
