I agree with James, regular changes being more important than overall quality of oil.
I use tractor universal oil bought in 25l drums and change it regularly.

what do you guys call regular..? Every 6 months ok on less than 12k miles a year..?

My 1998 Disco 1 has 205000miles on it, oil and filter every 6 months at landrover dealer, just been through MOT and the tester said the emissions were better than some newer cars.
Touch wood it runs sweet no smoke,when it's not stuck in a f**kin car park with a buggered ignition barrel that is ..........
