High idling with replacement engine.

Hi, I have an October 2004 Freelander SE HB 1.8 petrol with approx 68000 on the clock. it ran very nicely until the engine blew up on Boxing Day ! I have since had the engine replaced with a second hand one which runs fine except that more often than not it wont idle at less than 2500 rpm and odd warning lights come on and off sporadically.

My garage has, they say, tried everything and say that the computer software they have doesn't show any faults.

As i need to sell her soon I need to fix her first. Does anyone have a clue as to what might be wrong?

Oh and I'm a newbie, is this the right forum to raise this?
