After 4 years of no trouble with starting the cold weather is taking its toll on my battery numax cxv-x1000.just tried to order a new one but now discontinued can anyone recommend a suitable replacement needs to be high CCA also it's for an es so 85ah+have tried in the past fitting a 650cca battery was fine in the summer but hopeless in the winter.

For my Disco 1 I fitted an Optima Red Top two years ago. Expensive, but it had the most CCAs I could find at the time.

plus 1 what discool said

i've always liked the varta batteries personally

what's ur standing and running volts plse

Personally I would check why your engine isn't firing up with a standard battery as it should, and for a large Numax battery to start failing in four years suggests there is a problem.

Agreed :)- and the first thing I suggest is.....

Have you ever given the battery a periodical maintenance charge?

Do this... with a proper charger ( I.E. not a cheapo halfrauds POS:p ), and if it doesn't revive it, take it back to where you bought it from:)

+1 - used to use Fulmen when they were available, but now Varta seem about the best - just about everything here has a Varta on it... and they seem to tolerate the low winter temps up in the hills, so they must have some "goodness" inside :D

This is the other possibility - some electrical nonsence - possibly alternator going south (?), probably quite likely with a good battery, like a numax....

Just ran some tests on charge system.engine off no load 12.6v.idle no load 14.1v.idle high load 12v. 2000rpm high load 13.2v.this test was done after a 15mile trip.

this is what i done with mine, took the battery off, put it on trickle charge for two days , so i can then see how it performs in the winter months

don't like to put them on high rate of charge , to be honest i don't know how true it is , if it is indeed better to use a trickle charge instead of a quick charge rate

never heard of the numex to be honest , had a varta on the hippo and could easily leave the car standing for 2 x weeks and would start on the button

can't see any date on mine, it will just see how it shapes up with winter now here , but won't hesitate to put a varta on it

seen quite a few of the discos fit a split charge system , might do that at some stage , when i go camping etc

reminds me i must see what type of socket i've got as i think some of the trailer sockets u can get leads to run things off and charge via the socket
