I'm Eero from finland and i just bought my first land rover. It's freelander 1 -99 with 1.8 petrol engine.
I like british machines and i'm also working now with my BSA project. It's Bsa B40 -62.
I also have Royal enfield bullet 500 -01. And month ago i sold my jaguar xjr -96.

My freelander is little project so I hope you can give some technical advice :)

Nice :) I also have Volvo 740 -88 fully rebuild 2.3litre turbo engine and usa style headlamps and with some other tunning. But there is just some 250hp :D
By the way is gasket change big job? My freelander engine is in good condition but gasket leak is quite common fault... just waiting for it... :p

If you change it now you will be able to avoid more work. Its easy to change it by locking the top dead crank and lock the camshafts with the small tool.I put first a water gauge autometer to the top radiator colar so i look the water temp. You should do that and will not miss the temp above 85
