Always had discovery’s in the past and had a series 3
I’ve had 200tdi 300 and a td5
I sold my td5 about 18m ago and have been cruising around in my Mercedes c270 but I’ve missed the green laning to much and with my nephew now into it I decided to look for a cheap off roader! Was surprised how much the discos are holding there money atm it is winter surpose?! Anyway I found a cheap freelander (hippo) on eBay and bought on a trade sale for £270! And it’s mot!!! So took it out within days seems ok it cut out a few times in the big puddles(small pond) lol the air intake is very low on these!! Trying to do as many mods on the cheap!! But definitely need tyres and lift kit I’ve already made a snorkel there very expensive to buy! Here’s a few pics so far only had it for 10days
I’m from mildenhall,Suffolk if anyone wants to meet up green laning
Looking for winch,tyres,lift kit!!

I got it it as a trade sale for £270 it had one side off sunroof missing both wiper & indicator stalks broken off! And very wet inside total cost to repair £5 from local scrappy!!!

After 4hrs green laning

After a week I’ve painted bonnet and wheels made a snorkel(needs adj) removed seats to dry out lol removed carpets!! Changed front lights and side repeaters put full LR rubber boot liner in and spare wheel cover and universal air filter total cost inc freelander £320!!! But tires and lift kit will cost about that!!damn

Will these fit on my standard alloys and will clearance be an issue??? I’m going to do the 50mm lift kit will I need spacers etc??

hi and welcome the asylum

at least if the engine fails in the water u haven’t lost much

see ur creative abs pipe for the snorkel but know it will die well before it reaches that level ;)

subjects like, tyres, lifts etc have been done to death , have a quick search and u will see a minefield of information

may sound daft but should have bought another disco , seeing ur now going to fit bigger tyres and lift :p:D

It was all down to cash tbh I only had £500 budget that was all my pocket money lol so freelander seem to be the way to go there cheap and plenty of them my local stray yard only want £300 for a facelift commercial (should have bought it)
And yes the snorkel was made from down pipes from screw fix I have removed the old air filter and bypassed everything as it sits way to low !! Here’s what I’ve done btw once it dies I will find a diesel one next and just swop most bits over!!

It’s all been silicone sealed I’ve covered all wires in Vaseline and taped up what I can

quite understand where ur coming from, useto have a TD4 myself ,

thought it was downpipe and must say very creative , but u would have to worry about the water coming in through the doors and electrics going haywire before u reached that height , not forgetting oil in the gearbox and breathers , lol

but see why u bought it as a mess around for off road use, is it still four wheel drive or has the prop been removed

well can’t argue with it being so cheap and not a great loss if the engine goes pop

think i will notice a lot of difference coming from a disco with the ground clearance issues

this is a good bit of wading , lol , inside remind bone dry and engine was fine, personally now i wouldn’t ever go deeper than my sills

plus meant to say , assume you’ve declared all the mods to the insurance company , unless it never goes on the road
