Hi, been lurking for a while, but now I'm desperate for contact and help, recommendations please. My lovely 1984 90 Defender is in need of an engine swap. I'm pretty sure there's a thread for this but I could do with recommendations for a Landy lover who can swap out the original 2 and a quarter petrol for a 200tdi (or 300 depends what I can find!). Anyway, I'll find the correct thread to start the ball rolling. Here's a pic of me beauty too.

Welcome. That's an original v early model 90. It's worth keeping it original, but if you swap engines keep the petrol engine if it's the original. Sure it isn't a 2.5l ? There's plenty of threads on engine swaps . Even the colour and the stripes are period. Nice.

Thanks John. It is a 2 1/4 Petrol with 87k on the clock and loads of paper to back it up. It's never been resprayed and the original stripes / decals are on it. Now you've got me thinking, do I moth ball it and buy another diesel? Oh what have I started!

I'm a bit of a fan of the 2 1/4 petrol, very refined for a tratter and up to the job in todays traffic though thirsty.

I bought mine with the intention of chucking a 200tdi in whenever it showed signs of a problem but more considering single point LPG now.

I'm a fan too, but to be honest it's the old mpg that makes me consider an engine swap. A few people outside of LZ have said keep the petrol as they are getting pretty hard to come by these days, I'm getting confused !! LPG isn't something I considered either, but I'm open to suggestions so I'll start looking at the threads. Thanks
