Hi All!

Am I right in asking question ref Thread Header!!

That you guys and girls driving Freelanders have the same issues we have with out D1 & 2s? The 3 Amigos!!!?

Just looking for some advise from you drivers.

I'm just about to take car for a spin (local) to start the ball rolling for solutions to fix the issues raised!

Thought I had a pic to post for you to look at! But it's just showing Engine warning ⚠️
But will take one if needed!

Kev

The early Freelander up to '99 have the exact same WABCO ABS (+TC +HDC) system as in D2.

Dunno what system the D1 has - but it wouldn't have the 3 Amigos because its just ABS.

The Freelander suffers the same problems as D2 - including the shuttle valve issues. Basically its a case of reading the fault codes and fixing it, which usually involves replacing stuff like sensors, brake switch or the modulator/pump.

I've owned my F1 for 12 or so years and have had the 3 Amigos twice, both times shuttle valves. I've bought used modulators from breakers. The first one was obviously ropey cos it only lasted a couple of years, but the one I've got now has been running fine for a number of years.

I did get the 3 Amigos 1 other time when I got stuck of a gravel river bed, they came on after being towed off the ridge I was stuck on, but went out again before we got back to tarmac. I presume some grit or summat got into a hub or summat and it cleared.

You can get a shuttle valve replacement part, and there is a quite well known bodge - but I've been able to get 2nd hand modulators quite easily when I've needed them. Dunno if that would be so easy now!

Incidentally if you drive a D2 TD5 it not only has the same ABS system, but also has the same engine as my Freelander. All-be-it with an extra cylinder grafted on and common rail injection :)

The TD5 was a development of the L Series used in Freelander. They share same pistons and stuff - just 5 not 4.

The Freelander TD4 would have been the G Series which was Rover's 4 cylinder version of the TD5 L Series development. But it all went a bit pear shaped and Kraut after that ;)

The Freelander TD4 ended up being the BMW M47 unit.

@GrumpyGel thanks for he reply, i did forget about the D1😲.

Just taken it for a spin!! Had my reader in! Came back reading front left sensor!!
Cleared all! Before driving away! And came back again🤔 but my reader (isoftcar 930) showed no faults after I cleared them? But will get 2nd opinion!! Sometime next week from the garage I use!!

Kev

If it comes to doing the Bypass!! After fixing with new sensor??? I will have to do that!

Also check the Fuel Pressure sensor again!!

Hi, on my 04 auto a couple of times my dog has jumped from the back into the front & stepped on the HDC button & it's brought the '3 amigos' on. I then have to press the HDC button on & off several times to clear it (I have had to replace an faulty ABS sensor before which as you know will also throw the same lights on).

There will be a code, or else it wouldn't throw the lights.

Looks like you've only got 2 Amigos lit. There is a tables of faults in the Freelander Rave doc that says what the possibilities are for the different combinations of lights lit - if you have the Rave doc for D2, I'm sure it will be in there also. It may be something like the brake switch.
