need to work out the costs if worse case scenario and ird unit failed plus other bits n bobs that go with it. any places people would recommend?
 
what your describing there is a viscous coupling....cheaper than an IRD and it sounds like yours is knackered......so id have an independent garage take a look at it and get a price for a fix with part supplied.....then ask your other half what price he can get one for through his long list of suppliers etc......all in all its not a major job,so you can take your head back out the sand....anyway....your getting 10% payrise soon lolololol

Let's put it this way, it won't do it any favours!
 
without actually seeing the car its hard to decide if its the coupling or the ird....and to be honest im tinking more'coupling'from what you said in later texts....your ird is probably safe for now....itl no doubt be storing that prob for a later date lol..i wouldnt advise driving it as a prop shaft plays havoc with the floorpan wet it decides to part company at one end.......so id trailer it there...or get the RAC/AA whoever your with to take it to the repair shop and its then an easy enuf fix

never heard of them.......but then again ive never needed the parts your after lol like i said,find out what part you need 1st(my £ is on the vcu)then take it from there.....good luck/pleasure to be of use
 
theyre based in the midlands not that that makes a difference lol
im praying its the vcu now - gone are my hopes of the wheel bearing and 40 quid!! if i get the ar changed to 2 wheel drive after (if it is just vcu) vcu bits done would this decrease the risk of my ird failing dya think?
 
alot of people do just that.....run around in front wheel drive....but i seem to remember reading somewhere in one of the mags that it kinda invalidates your insurance etc as its no longer'fit for purpose'as landrover designed it to run as a 4x4 etc.....(but itl be just our lickle secret eh!)lol.....or of course you could get it fixed and change cars

il decide what to do once cars in garage - fingers crossed its not too bad (who am i trying to kid! i was convinced it was a rear wheel bearing lol )
cant believe how muh ive learnt in a couple of days about my td4!! oh how ignorance is bliss sometimes lol
 
i suggest you get it fixed..then with your 10% payrise+back pay...thatl be leaving you just £2000 short of the £78000 asking price for a new audi R8....you should get that for the freelander lol

when i was buying/selling landrovers i must confess as too not actually wanting to even give them a go...but late low mileage ones kept popping up at prices too god too miss...and they all sold within a week of advertising them...all were bought by women...and i never had a single one come back with a problem so the newer ones are either better quality or simply storing problems for later.....ive even bought and sold low mileage petrol ones,again no probs...but i do think as they age/clock up the miles then there comes a time to avoid them and move on to another vehicle,but once yours is sorted then you should be ok
 
hi everyone :) well cars in the garage, landrover mechanic looked at it and confirmed my worst fears - IRD's dead!!! also rear diff mount though thats least of my worries!!
he's said that VCU seems ok and not to worry about replacing.
My question is should i have VCU replaced if going to the expense of the IRD? worried VCU could fail in future and knock out my new IRD.
What do peeps think?

if you are planning on keeping the car for the long term then id replace ird/vcu as they are the two main concerns with the freelander TD4s,if however your looking at moving on to a lambo/ferarri/bugatti or whatever it is you teechas are driving these days then just spend the minimum to move it on....now heres your homework,write
I MUST NOT BUY ANOTHER FREELANDER .....a thousand lines!
