Hello everyone,

I just thought I would join your forum as I think I am about to become a landrover owner and value the opinions of enthusiasts alike.

I have been offered a 95 300Tdi for about a €1000 and I am seriously considering buying it, what should I look out for please?

i assume you meant bald tyres, even a tatty 200 will fetch £400

what's it like on whatever planet you live on ?

am sure everyone could conjure up some anecdotal evidence of how little vehicles are worth

anyway back to the real world .....

er i just got a 4.0v8 with lpg lift etc £500,and it has so many spares its un real. There is no way id pay more than £500 for any 4x4 at the mo.No one wants them and so long as u up the offer above the scrap value you will probably get it so why not try eh?

oi you so why do 90,sand 110 hold good money then !!!!
be it a v8 or tdi

your forgetting that 99% of what BoB says bares no relation to reality and can therefore safely be ignored

The LT77 Gearbox suffers mainshaft and synchromesh wear at high mileages. Listen for clonks when changing gear.
The R380 gearbox although better, suffers high mileage wear but this manifests itself as difficult to select a gear but thats harder to spot cos it could just be the clutch too.
Check that the low range is selectable. It's very easy/cheap to repair but is great way of getting a price reduction.
Check bulkheads for corrosion especially footwells and the top corners by the screen mounts.
Check that the windows in the doors wind up and down smoothly.
The rear doors suffer with internal cracking of the frame. So take a screw driver with you and or look for cracked paint parallel and an inch or so below the lower edge of the window.
Check the whole chassis for off road damage and corrosion but especially the outriggers and rear cross member.
Steering boxes are prone to leaks (like the rest of the Landy Lol)
check for worn suspension bushes again easy cheap repair but nuther good price reduction.
Also axle cases and diffs check carefully for corrosion especially if diff gaurds have been fitted.
Check load beds too for dents.
Finally check all the usual things you'd check on any other vehicle.

1000 euro's sounds too cheap for a good Landy so give it a real good lookover and chat to the owner about his/her adventures in it they should have plenty of things to tell you which should tie into the condition of the vehicle. If they come across as false or cannot tell you much then walk away.
So above all take someone with you, preferably someone who owns a Landy.

Good luck and by the way welcome :D :D :D

Steve
