Hi, my names Danny and I'm looking to join you all as landy lovers.
I am currently looking at a few d2's for my everyday car and my offroad car too.
But I'm being swayed towards a p38 range rover.
In your opinions what would you suggest as the most beneficial taking into account it will be my family car as well as a off roader.
What has the most problems etc.

Thanks,
Danny

now then, the disco has seven seat option and kids love the rear most.
range rovers come with a butler!
and its own bank account!
which always needs cash deposits! Your choice..

Hi Mark,
I was looking at a P38 around 2000 model so not as upmarket as they once were I assume.
That being said would it be more costly. I do like the 7 seat option in a D2 but as I only have 1 child its isn't necessarily important. I suppose I'm looking for comfort and a good off roader. So I was wondering how they would compare taking both them things into account.

Not sure how old your kid is.
But before making a decision for a D2, based on the 7 seat criteria, I would have a look at the lack of space you have when trying to use them.
The other thing I would look at is whether you want an Auto or Manual. Range rover manuals are available but not as common.

Good luck.

Cheers

the p38 is a great car and very capable off road. A real hissy fit thrower If you really like challenge.
the D2 td5 is a nice car and less complicated. I would have bought the D2 if I hadn't of got my p38 of my mate, who brought to me to look after it in the two years he owned it! Disco is just as monstrous on the road as the Range Rover, brilliant presence.
I'd have them both if I could...yeh, that would go down well.. 0-0
I guess some home work and a few more replies would help..

Hi neilly.
I don't think space with the seats up would be a issue I would probably never use them just a good addition to have as for manual or auto it isn't a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the reply

When you say less complicated do you mean as in mechanical problems or just in general I have been told the D2 td5 is effectively bullet proof if maintained properly but I suppose that's the same with every engine, as for road presence I think both standard with no mods the P38 over shadows the D2 in my opinion still a force to be reckoned with on road .

electronics! The range has around eleven computers on board!!! All communicating with becm!!( dont quote me!).
My 2005 Volvo v50 is less complicated!! All I can suggest is have mooch through both the disco and rr sections and make list of the most common problems that come up and A, see if it something you live with and self repair...or.
B, Fu© king run!!!:p:p:eek:

Thank you electronic problems are probably my worst nightmare, engine wise I know my way around it. On my last car it kept throwing up electronic problems after getting stupid quotes I tried to take it on myself hence why its my old car haha. I will do some research on what electronic problems they commonly throw up but by the sound of it ill be running to a D2.
Thanks

Thanks Mark.
I have till may to decide so I'm going to view a couple of each and hopefully make the right choice.
Thanks for the advice mate
