So i was recalibrating my lpg on my 98 4.6 p38 and when the lpg kicked in the car died and now it'll hardly start and theres a tapping noise coming from the plenum chamber! The noise comes and goes in a pattern if you know what i mean! What has happened?

what lpg system is it?

how is it on petrol?

did you save the original settings?

if you look in the software there should be something that puts it all back to factory!

its a tartarini sgi. Right i'll try load it up when the morning comes. But whats the noise from the plenum chamber? Thats my main concern!

not sure cos theres nowt in ther that moves!! it can only be noise from somewhere else really, check breathers are on and nowt is loose or cracked/broke???

it barely starts/runs on petrol. Sounds all out of sync. I have to rev for it to start and need to keep revving for it to run. Revs are all over the shot. I got a bit of garden hose and used it to listen to the engine. I think the noise is coming from lower down. It seems loudest down at the rear spark plug on the drivers side.

I did nothing mechanical lastnight. Just went to calibrate my lpg and when the software went from petrol to gas during it the whole thing went wrong.

i'll try that now.

also i am not getting any warning lights on dash and my obd is not giving me any faults codes etc.

if something major then surely something would show up on either dash or obd or both?

any one got anymore ideas?

It just sounds like everything is out of sync. This morning when i was out for a second or two it smoothed out and sounded like normal but then it quickly went back to struggling to run. Revs are up and down, sometimes it will idle then other times you'll need to use throttle to keep it running.

havent looked at them but to be honest the car has run for more than a couple minutes so nothings getting a chance to warm up.

What were you thinking J?

got no idea what is wrong. Just know that the lpg autocalibration has done something to my car that doesnt give a fault code or any dash warning lights. Done all i can so i think its off to the garage tomorrow morning.

Also when i can get it running it is sucking in so much air that the noise from the filter is like something from a star wars movie. It was missing really bad this morning. Went out to do a system reset just incase it might clear anything up but it didnt.

just managed to drive it like a 4mile trip. So car is still rough and got a couple backfires when out. No overheating but one thing i did notice was under the oil filler cap was a bright yellow gunk! But not like the mayonnaise colour that would be associated with a headgasket being away. This was as yellow as these little smilie faces :):blabla::hysterically_laughi and the oil smells of petrol.

The thing is that i checked the oil cap yesterday and it was totally normal (black) and today its like someones stuck frenches american mustard on it.

The story just gets wilder!
