This morning I discovered HFS not working as it is supposed to, from what I have read about O/S and N/S or both not working, but nothing about 3" vertical bars defrosting O/S and N/S of centre, I would guess the power to both sides of the screen is ok otherwise would it not be all or nothing, and it is the screen itself. Don't want to be taking the panels off to check screen connections for no reason. Or could this still be some connection problem.
I have found Rover rear windows to be famous for heated screen elements packing in and only part of the window defrosting, is this the same sort of thing, as from what I understand the Freelander was a MG Rover design passed to Land Rover

Your HFS has had it. There are 2 power circuits for the screen heater. One to feed power to left of the central point and a second to feed power to the right of the central point. As you have lots of individual non working elements, next to working elements on the same circuit. This suggests that the window itself is faulty, and requires changing.

The HFS only appeared on LRs, after Ford took over LR. Ford owned the patent for the HFS, so could control who uses it. I believe the patent has now expired, so they are getting into more vehicles now.
Rover never had a HFS as far as I know. Although lots of Rover engineered components are in the FL1.
