Hi, tried my aircon on Tuesday but after 20mins running it was only blowing cool.Since then the notebook symbol has appeared in the hevac display and doesn't go away ?.Everything works ok except the aircon.Does the system need re-gassing ?? and will that get rid of the notebook symbol ?
Cheers:confused:

I've noticed my HEVAC has come up with a fault in colder weather, and gone away after, so you may be lucky with having a temporary fault.

Best thing to do to start is give the system a good workout, i.e. run through all the settings by the buttons, all fan speeds, and all temperatures from lo to hi. This may dislodge a stuck flp and clear a fault.

After that you'll have to diagnose whether a solenoid or blend motor has blown.

The unit won't directly detect your system needing regassing, When you say everything works okay except the aircon what do you mean by that?

If the book symbol appears straight away after starting up then you have at the very least one stuck/broken blend motor.

The reason your A/C might not appear to be working is because one of the blend flaps is stuck because the motor has failed.

When you try and engage the A/C do you hear the compressor click in??

Hi,fans blow good speeds when asked, heat range adjusts perfect, all directions switch correct all switches ie seats/screens/program buttons work ok but when you switch aircon button the light above it flashes 5 times and then stops on but there is no detectable drop in temperature. I can't hear/detect any noise/click as though the compressor is kicking in but saying that the diesel noise does cover most things ?

Hi
If you want to get your aircon gas checked try quick fit, they check the temperature before charging the aircon gas then after recharging they check it again if it doesnt alter by a specified ammount then you dont have to pay, if it does then it only costs £45.00.
I dont like quick fit but i think this is a good deal and had it done to mine after changing the condenser. It may get rid of the test book symbol it was what caused mine to show.

when you press the A/C OFF button and the light flashes 5 times you are turning OFF the A/C and the system is indicating to you that it can't maintain the temp you have asked from it without the A/C. If you turn the heat up full and then turn the A/C off you will notice how the light wont flash when you press the off button.

Yes I know its weird that a light comes on when you turn the A/C off but thats just the way it is :D

Is the book symbol coming on straight away after starting or is it taking a few minutes to show?? The main reason the book symbol would come on straight away after start up is because of the blend motors. When I had a leaking condenser and there was no gas left the book symbol would come on after 2/3 minutes of driving, not straight away.

Even with the diesel engine the click from the compressor is easily heard when it engages, this is coupled with a brief drop in engine revs.

Before starting elsewhere check all fuses and relays related to the HeVAC system. ALSO, very importantly, check the lead that goes to the compressor. Open the bonnet and look around by the rear of the battery box, you should see a blue connector with a yellow/green wire, check this is firmly plugged in and then grab a powerful torch and look very closely at the wire where it enters the plug that goes into the compressor. I had an intermittent fault which would sometimes allow the compressor to work and sometimes not, it turned out to be a buggered lead, see the pics below...

In the end I found out this piece of feeble wire was the cause by having the engine running, A/C set to LO on both sides, blowers on full to face only. I then reached down (dont do this without wearing gloves or an old shirt as you arm will get really really oily from the turbo pipe) into the engine bay (go top side/engine side of the turbo pipe) and pushed on the connector while knocking the wire. As I did, CLICK, the compressor kicked in and ran perfectly. I thought at the time the lead wasn't plugged in properly until every few days I ended up doing this. I did some searching and found a TSB about this problem and if it was encountered to order replacement part YMQ103910 which is only a couple of quid from the dealer. After replacing the lead the A/C worked perfectly and you know when the compressor click in as it has a really positive click.

So in a nutshell, check relays and fuses and the compressor link lead. Once you have done that if you are still having trouble and the book symbol is on then get the gas checked. If it is low, when getting it recharged make sure they put the leak dye stuff in so you can figure out where its coming from should it leak again.

Do the checks first and report back with what you find.

Cheers, will have a good check in the morning but there is definitely NO click when you switch the aircon on/off and the fuses in the engine bay are ok but dont know how to check the relays ??

To check any relay I generally just pull it out, check the pins for any signs of damage such as overheating etc and then just swap it with another relay from the box. Look at the inside of the top of the fusebox cover to see the function of each relay.

Has the A/C ever worked since you owned it??

Hi, only brought the car in October so not really tried the aircon but it did seem to go cold on the test drive!! Before i got chance to check anything this morning my son called to say he had a flat battery !!Started car upand after 30 secs the notebook appeared, then i noticed the aircon light was on (its a bit obscured by the dash trim ) Switched it off and called at Brothers to get jump leads. Came out and restarted car and hey presto no notebook sign and i daren't try the aircon again.I have noticed today a small fluid leak (not oil) by the pipes at the front nearside .Are they oil cooler/aircon or anything else ??
Cheers:confused:

Just tried a check or two, switched car on,no notebook symbol, put temp to lo with full blowers, after 30secs notebook symbol came on,no 'click' from compressor tried all fuses and swopped relays but still nothing , checked lead to compreesor and looks/feels fine but still no 'click' ????
Any more thoughts before a trip to Kwikfit to have a regas.Checked the small leak out and it looks like it is the rubber joint between two halves of a pipe to the auto gearbox cooling rad (no foglights)

Ok, when you put it to LO was the light above the A/C button on or off?? It should be OFF as that means the A/C is ON.

Have you tried setting the A/C to OFF (this means the light above the A/C button will be ON) and then adjusting the temps?? If it is the A/C thats at fault then you wont see the book symbol hopefully with the A/C set to off.

If you try this and the book symbol only appears when the A/C is on then I would take it somewhere to check it is properly gassed and that there is actually gas in there. If there isnt then have them put leak dye in there so you can figure out where the leak is coming from.

If there isnt a leak and the system is properly gassed then you will have to really get the computer hooked up to read the faults.

Report back with what you find out when you have the gas checked.
