Wouldn't bother with the polybushes just buy genuine ones from LR they will out last and feel much nicer that the stiff polybushes I fitted and mine are the comfort ones. Theyre absolutly ****e! Jai

well today we went to brightwells. came back with a 74 series 3. needs work doing to it but its certainly sexy!

on the way back got a little juddering. happens every now and then. this goes nicely with the knocking sound and so i am sure its something with the rear prop shaft though i havent the fooking foggiest what it is :c

may just take it to a local landy specialist and fork out more money

im really not currently mechanical minded enough to look at diagnosing or fixing something like that to be totally honest with you! wish i would be but im still at a pretty basic level on that front!

8 bolts and a little patience will get the rear prop off, you'll be able to check out the UJs for play or seizure and make sure it is sliding properly. I've just had to do that with mine, and it was the prop that took out the xfer box in the first place. It's a simple enough job (it must be if I did it meself) and I'd be happy to help if it would save you some time and cash.

You do keep mentioning that you need to expand your mechanical knowledge where your landy is concerned. The only way to do that is to dive right in with spanner and socket wrench in hand... ask or phone one of the crew for help when necessary and be prepared to take five times as long to do a job as Kev, DB, Jai or one of the more experienced fellas would. The feeling of achievement is much greater than shelling out a wad of cash and you will know that you can repeat the job in the middle of nowhere in half the time next time.

Wheel bearings are a great example... daunting at first, but once you have done it or seen it done you realise that actually it is not rocket science, and if you do get it wrong its usually an easy fix.

Having said all that... thanks to Jai for calling round and helping with my UJs this evening... kai did start putting the props back on but ran out of daylight so it will be an after school job for him tomorrow!

He did manage to get the steering guard back on the shogun after he had repainted it the other evening though. Not a perfect job, but it looks so much better than before, and it is the first cosmetic improvement he has done that he will see every time he gets in the motor.

Call if you are worried about checking a propshaft. I Do hope you learn really quick cos that trip you are planning will eat propshaft Uj's and lots more items that will need to be fixed on route. As for checkin the propshafts chock the wheels. leave the handbrake off and get under there and try and push and pull each Uj if you need give us a ring i'll explain better over the phone but just shout UJ's are easy and you don't want it destroying a rear diff input bearing on salisbury cos you'll be in a world of ****e if you are in the moddle of nowhere. Jai

feel for play in the joints if there isnt any play and they are free to move, then pump full of grease you might be lucky but i reckon its probably too late tbh

well im gonna need to call in the bigger boys on my landy im afraid. theres more oil running about since the last time i looked, the steering rod now wont budge even though jai got it off in a jiffy the other week, and the random shaking continues - there was a loose bolt which i sorted but apart from that im at a loss right now!

hey Carpy did you do the drop arm nut on the bottom of your steering box it wasnt as tight as it should have been this needs doing ASAP! I said it will get you home but it needed doing then really it will damage the splines on the steering box if left loose and if it does becomes really loose or even comes off you will have no steering what so ever. This will need checking pronto forgot to mention in on the phone yesterday Jai

should be a larf ill bring my welly boots this time and the usual recovery stuff. He everyone comes we will need to be in a few groups so i will get an OS map of the area sorted asap. I dont mind leading a group if need be Jai
