Saturday 22/05/2010 Meet at Sainsbury's north of Bedford on A6 @ 09.30. Same as last time.

Hi Guys...

Ok so I took out the gearbox. Sure enough much **** and oil splattered everywhere. thrust bearing about to give up the ghost comletely and clutch showing signs of wear so those have to be replaces also.

Removed the fly wheel (Kai thought the rear was supposed to be black instead of silver!

Now having got to the rear crank oil seal... my question is this... How do I get the damn thing out? Can i get to it from inside if I remove the sump?

Any clues/ideas or experience would be welcome.

Cheers R

Thanks Brett, I have to go to VW in the morning to buy a new work van, looking at a 4 motion transporter, it has a rear diff locker so I can bring it out to play :D and then I need to pop in at Keith Gott to get some landy bits and take the dogs out etc etc.

So I would not be able to get there until mid afternoon, probably not worh the trip unless something really exciting is going on, like you guys need winching out of a bog or something :p So give me a call if you need an extra winch, or else I'll give it a miss..

Did I ever tell you about rebuilding my current engine, new bearings, rings and a nice new rear crankshaft seal, which lasted precisely 2 weeks. Engine out again to replace a £2 part.

Well i am not sure about the rear seal, did ask my mate who was a land rover tec guy now works for auto land and he tells he that you drop the sump off to get at the rear main bearing cap then you can get the old seal out and change the side seals at the same time,,

but hey not 100% on that but i do trust what he tells me.....

Dunno if you have Rave, but these might help ... ;)
