I still think yours is seized. Mine sounded like a tank often, since cleaning it up it goes like the others mention only briefly on start up and sometimes if I stop in traffic on a hot day. new one is stupid money though so if it goes okay. Wammers mentioned other day some convert to a 300TDI oneOw yes sounds like a bloody tank coming down the road, no need to test just listen yep thats working

This "cleaning it up" and getting a return to normal functioning suggests that the VC is a serviceable unit. Is this the case? Just me -nothing to lose, everything to gain- not spending stupid money for new one.
