i think iv'e totally screwed up. My tailgate handle had broken on my 1.8 xei freelander. Call a so called independant specialist who advised me the following:
remover rear interior covers O/Side to reveal wiring. Connect positive feed from battery to blue wire with purple stripes.

i did this and the door opened the rear window went down so thought nothing more.

around ten minuites later, there was a buzzing noise in the tailgate folloed by clicking noises from the two relay near osr s/absorber, followed by excessive clicking from the fuse box. Noticed when clicking noise occurs, the fog lanmps, interior lights pulse in time with the clicking.

the result is the rear window is permantly down, remote central locking doesn't work, alarm keeps sounding off, mirrors no longer work, had to disconnect horn, engine wont start.

can you help. aa man said i could have fried the Central Control Unit (CCU). could this be?

please help

thx
paul

It would appear that the aa guy is on the right track re CCU. The CCU controls all the functions which you mention and it seems that it is now operating in a very confused state. If you are certain that you carried out the indepedent specialists instructions to the letter could you not refer back to him? My personal approach would be to disconnect battery negative ( you will probably lose radio code) then disconnect the blue/ purple wire which you mentioned. I would then reconnect the battery and just maybe the CCU would come to its senses again. ( I have had a reasonable success rate with this 'unplug it for a while' procedure with many electronic devices)

Good luck. Dann..

yep, it was the ccu. Was told by Land Rover & other indedependants that i would need a new CCu. Cost from Land Rover £286.00. Got a used one from cws (£50 +vat +P+P). Two hours worth of coding later, one freelander on the road. Would recomend the guys at JB Landrovers @ Honiton, Devon. thx for the reply dann.
