Hello,
Issue with my RR Vogue 2008 3.6L.
Bought Oct/Nov 21, it was left for about 10 days in April, whilst then driving it an engine fault light came on and though engine was running no power, switching off/on cured things - it did so about 3/4 times in a 4 hour or so journey.
The code reader revealed loads of codes, the mechanic said to run it and see what happens.
It has done so once more same symptoms.
However, 2 weeks ago there was no power but no fault indicated, I managed to get into a parking bay on dual carraigeway, as doing so smoke bellowing out the back, the engine fault also appeared, I dont know when coasting or when restarting, smoke again after restarting it from the rear.
Towed to garage it would then not start and smoking from rear.
Called today and alot of fault codes and they are waiting on an auto-spark.
Anyone else had the same symptoms, shed any light?

Don't know the codes off hand, the mechanic said there was several.
Mechanic sending codes when time permits, going to put the code reader on again.

Several codes all at once sounds like a power issue, check the battery is fully charged and healthy.
Measure the voltage while staying the engine, it shouldn't drop lower than 11.5, then should ideally jump to at least 14.5v once running

Thanks, when I left the car it would not start just smoking out the exhaust.

An auto sparky isn't going to be able to help, other than pull the codes.

It sounds like the turbos to me, or boost pipes, but the codes are needed to even start to guess at the issue. Unfortunately these engines are really complicated, so decent diagnostics by a RR specialist is needed really.

Thanks for reply, there is a 4x4 specialist not far from me, it might need their attention by the sounds of it.

As said above, the codes are your starting point, but I would be more inclined to think it's something to do with fuel pressure or injectors.
It should still start with bad Turbos or split turbo hoses, and I doubt it would be intermittent. It would just be down on power.
I would start by checking the fuel pressures. Based on a quick google, should be:
LP = 0.5 bar
HP = 1700 bar (jesus that's high)
If they are good, then get the injectors tested.

Thanks for reply - I seem to recall the first time it was tested for codes (a multitude of) and something to do with pressure was within them, literally pages of codes. Passing all information to mechanic.
 
if it a diesel it could possibly be the turbos have failed or boost pipes
what fault codes has it come up with

Just ensure one issue isn't clouding another. When codes are read, get a copy. The guys and girls on here will help you decipher if you can't do it yourself.
I once had injector problem hidden, because it was throwing up similar symptoms to the gearbox issue we were chasing. It was a chance comment that made everyone stop blaming the gearbox.

Thanks for reply - passing all information to mechanic, the initial issue was no power and engine fault light, think it did this twice prior (4 times on each occasion) this 3rd time is lack of power, fault light came on eventually and plumes of smoke. It restarted soon after but would not start next day at garage.

You have no choice.....but to wait till the codes are read and then act! just wait and it will get the attention you are needing !

Above are fault codes received today from mechanic.

He also said when car first towed to garage and would not start, possibly a strange smell from fuel filler cap and a fuel line, about 1/4 tank of fuel left and I fuel at Shell with cheaper diesel.
