Ok this is how my stupid blonde brain works...
The smoke was coming out the back on the a Thursday...
So I took it to the stupid garage who replaced a section of exhaust on the Friday..
Saturday was oil leakage day!!!
You guys advised me of the crankcase breather filter which I told the mechanic about...
Mechanic said it was really clogged causing the oil to spill out of the dipstick.
All sorted...happy LandyLauren

In my stupid head I thought the smoke out the back and crankcase filter must be related, so now the crankcase filter has been replaced it should be all good right?
This is why I’m confused about the smoke coming out the back still
Sorry for not understanding!! Layman’s terms would be helpful

It all depends on the colour of the smoke, as to the cause. Black smoke is excessive fuel being burned. Blue smoke is oil getting onto the engine, normally from the breather system. White smoke is unburned fuel.
The colour of the smoke dictates the potential cause and what remedial action is needed.

I’ll take her for a drive now (my friend is going to drive behind) so I can check out the colour of the smoke!

Haha - didn’t spot that one. A rare mistake for GG, but I’m sure he knows better - we’ll put it down to a brief brain fart.

Just to be clear, @Landylauren7 the intercooler cools the air that the engine takes in. If your crankcase has been pressurising (clogged filter) then it’s possible that excess oil has been forced into the turbo and may be sitting in the intercooler. Hopefully, the smoke you’re seeing is just this excess burning off and will reduce over time.
 
What part if that is wrong? Should the intercooler have oil in it then?

If that quantity of oil was coming from the intercooler, would the only possible place of origin, however unlikely it is, be the turbo?

You said that the intercooler has hot exhaust going through the intercooler.
I'm no expert - but

1) I don't see how replacing a part of the exhaust would stop the engine smoking.

2) an intercooler should not have oil in it - it is just like a radiator but with hot exhaust gas flowing through the 'pipes' rather than liquid. It may have an oil residue in it over time, but if it is spewing oil like that it has come from the turbo. I would not be so sure that it is coming from the turbo/intercooler though.

Take the guys' advice above - especially relating to the crankcase/PVC filter

This is incorrect, as the intercooler is there to cool the fresh air inlet charge, before it enters the engine. ;)
 
Ah yeh, bit of a moment. Wrong gas. All the same, the intercooler isn't an origin of oil being spewed out.
No indeed. In this case, the dipstick tube was. But the theory is, the increased crankcase pressure has forced quite a bit of oil past the turbo seals and into the intake, and is sitting in the intercooler, hence the continued smoke.

its more likey heavy oil mist entering on the intake side of turbo

So took her for a drive yesterday. Not much smoke and when there was, it was a bit of black smoke on acceleration
