Hi,

2000 DHSE

Have just change one rear airbag to a GEN II. However it will not fill up with air after running for 10mins so far.

I can hear an air sound behind the wheel and the airline did seem easy out, easy in. Also do I put the gold bit on the airline the into bag or just force airline into bag?

Please help, it's freezing out here.

Cheers
James.

If by gold bit you mean the collet, it should be in the bag port before pushing the pipe in. It sounds like it's not sealing properly, so could be scoring on the outside of the pipe. You could try cutting back the tip by a few mil (5-7), making sure end is square (could also chamfer the end with a pencil sharpener by a tiny bit, litterally only 1mm or so), and then use a smidge of washing up liquid on it to ease it in.

I had great problems getting one of my new gen IIs to seal. After a couple of hours and much trimming of the airline, I pulled the bag out and found it didn't have any O rings fitted !!!!

I'm pretty sure I'm just not getting it in all the way (haha!). Am I right in thinking it had to push in past the collett? Any tools u can recommend?

Thanx!!

No tools necessary, and gripping it with something is likely to damage the pipe. Just lubricate it and grasp as tightly as frozen fingers will allow. :)

Right,

I felt it go in (ooo err) just hoping it rises, but with 3 other bags gone, might take a while.

PS the air noise has gone and the bubbles have stopped.

Fingers crossed and hope I don't run out or diesel!!

Cheers guys!!!

Errr! what do you mean 3 other bags gone! If you mean they all need replacing I would get the second rear one done before trying to pump it up!

I'm on it!

Well not really gone, just takes a while to pump up.

The fronts aren't that bad, so might wait for another day......

Cheers again guys, hopefully the otherside will be ok, now I know what to expect.

I used a spring hook, a bit of bent welding rod will do it on the looped over side and a screw driver on to open the other side.

I used a bit of bent wire coathanger (made originally for removing the window winders on a Rover P6 about 10 yrs ago - proved to my missus that's why I should never throw anything away!)

Finally done!!! Only took 6hrs!!!!

Thanks for all the tips and thanks Keith for the original guide!!

All that's left now is to change the bump stops, that can wait for another day as I don't see me needing them in the near future!!!

Next mission heated seats and a driverside wing mirror.

Thanks again! Proves how useful this forum is!!
