Hi to all,

I really need some advice regarding my Freelander. I was driving home on the motorway yesterday, when on of the VCU support bearings went. After a lift home from the nice recovery people I had a good look here on the forums.

The bit I really need help with is this. Until I can get a pair of replacement bearings deliverd. If I was to remove the front and rear prop shafts and VCU in one unit, would I be able to drive without having to remove the output pinion from the IRD unit? I have heard that when some people convert to two wheel drive, remove this and use a blanking plate. I want to avoid draining and refilling the IRD if at all possible, as I understand the filler and drain plugs can be a pain to remove.

Would be glad of any advice anyone could give as I'm not the most mechanically gifted person you will ever come across.

Thanks
Andrew

yes just remove complete assembly no work on ird needed except undoing prop cv bolts will need tork socket for prop bolts both ends

Forgive my ignorance, I'm a simple series man, but if you take both propshafts off, how will it drive the wheels?
