my registration number finally came though last week, so can now driver her legally on UK plates :) problem is, ive now found some problems.

The Car:

2000 TD5 Auto ES 160k on clock

The Symptoms:

as the box changes from 2nd to 3rd the revs spike/surge before 3rd engages. all other gears appear to change correctly, and the torque converter kicks in as it should when warm.

intermittent power loss after accelerating hard or going up hill. leading to the engine jerking under load

What ive done so far:

Changed every fluid and filter, including autobox (twice)
New FPR fitted, old one was leaking
Fuse box cleaned as had corroded in placed
Computer Diagnostic - reset codes followed by test drive
stall test came in at 2300rpm

Computer Diagnostic Results

took photos of most screens. live data revealed some interesting issues.

intake temperature steadyish until she started jerking under load, then started jumping from -200odd to + 200odd
Map pressure got as high as 255, then got stuck on 36
coolant temp read between 90 and 155!

will check that tomorrow, do you think the 2 problems could be related? or is It more likely my boxed is cream crackered as well?

check condition of oil by draining a little out if its blackish box needs another clutch pack or 2 if not try draining and refilling

Spot on. Plug on ecu full of oil. It was dripping out, lol. Wastegate is stuck solid as well. Ive ordered a new loom will fit tonight and free off wastegate. Ill report back on that later. As for the gearbox oil. It was brown and horrid when we drained it. We also only drained 2litres but 5 went back wtf? Did 300 miles and drained it again and changed the filter. Which was.clogged on both sides. The oil was still brownish but looked and smelt as hell of a lot better. Only done 50 miles since then. So will do a few more and check again

update time

New loom fitted an plug cleaned, wastegate freed up.

codes cleared for engine and transmission

test drive, holly poo, it flys, all live engine data seemed to be in normal spec, only problem was it was still over reving going into 3rd, when I got back checked for codes, open circuit injector 4. cleared it, drove it, didn't come back again.

looking at the data in the transmission there have been some changes. some of the randomly high figures recored on gear changes 1-2 etc have returned to normal. they didn't the first time, but after a while they droped down. still reving though! XYZ switch still registering invalid or intermediate on D 12&3 although no SM lights.

Is it gearbox time?

The oil in loom and wastegate siezed will have caused the kangaroo effect, and dodgy sensor readings. I know nothing about auto boxes so I will leave that to the other experts..

Flareing on shifts can just be a sticky valve block. Had the same problem on my P38. Two oil changes each with Lucas Tranmission fix and all is back to normal after a few hundred miles.:)
Worth a try.
