Hi

New to forum need some advice re arches and tyres I have a 2006 90 county TD5 with 2" lift and 30mm spacers running 255 85 16 tyres MT I have sitting a set of 285 75 16 which would need wide arches whats best to leave as is, remove spacers to fit the wider tyre or fit wide arches and leave spacers in place with the new tyres. My 90 is used both road and offroad.

Thanks

Nick

take spacers off and chuck em, then fit standard tyres.

yer spacers put an enormous amount of strain on yer hub bearings and the bigger the tyre bigger the strain.

in most situations yer actually better off with thinner tyres . one notable exception is posing, where the bigger the tyre the bigger the pose

not really, ah had a series 111 on salisbury plain over its axles in mud and still got it out. that wur on 750 x16's

back in the day

fit the moster wheels and get extended arches. it will look rad :D ignore the skinny tyre preachers, monster wheels will get you out of everything.

as slob sez, spacers are dangerous. all rims have what is called an 'offset'. this offset is a measurement from ded centre of yer inner/outer bearing 2 the centre line of yer rim. this ensures that yer rim sits perfect and the strain on yer bearings is equal when driving in a straight line. some cars have a slightly negative offset, whilst others a positive, depending on the factory setting for tha camber. put spacers and ya generally screwing up the offset and both yer bearings take strain, which leads to yer bearing ferkin out, which leads to ya coming back in here asking about a strange grinding noise every time ya turn ;) basically, if ya gonna go big on tyres, get rims with the correct offset for yer landy. normally tha offset is stamped somewhere on the inside of yer rim...normally a figure of between 20 and 30

i live on the beach so the posing theory is out , i am having trouble understanding some opions. shawly if u drive the road u use road tyres and off road off road tyres if u do both way up what is majority and use them

if you do what both way up? and do you mean one at a time or both ways at the same time?
