Hi.
Recently change the rear diff on my Landy from standard to range rover diffs. its a 1972 diesel 88"

run it around for a while (strictly rear wheel drive only)

it is dripping oil where the drive shaft meets the diff and splattering it around when i drive.

Could anyone advise me please. i don't know what its called or what vehicle to order it for. is it the same ring/seal as a landy and does it have a part code or number?

in the series landy section. paddocks have:
Swivel Housing Oil Seal
Swivel Seal Retainer
Axle Case Oil Seal

any of these any good?

also. anything else i should get at the same time ie clips, sealants etc.

many thanks in advance

I presume you mean where the propshaft meets the diff. It sounds like what you need is the diff pinion oil seal. FRC4586 should be the part number.

The Diff Pinion Oil Seal comes in 2 options, the original leather OEM part and a modern rubber one. I've used the rubber type. Getting the old leather one out can be a bitch.
Check condition of the input drive flange to make sure it isn't scored or it will leak irrespective of fitting a new seal or not. I fitted a new flange anyway as the one on it was original.
Also make sure you've got the seal and flange dripping in EP90 as you assemble it or the seal won't last 5 minutes.

many thanks. ill order a seal and flange for both front and rear.
do i need to take the diffs t
o bits for this?

No, just the propshaft at the diff ends only, you can leave the gearbox ends attached, just tie them out of the way so they're not hanging in your face. There's a castle nut with a split pin underneath the prop that hold the flange on, so worth getting new split pins too.

I'd order a spare seal in case you bugger it up fitting it, they're cheap. Worth using Blue Hylomar around the outside of the seal to bed it in.

Paddocks sell hylomar - look in tools.

thanks.. and the flange.
is it the "Drive Flange 10 spline 571235 Series 2 & 3

taking into account that the diffs are from a 1973 rangerover.

No, that's for the wheel end of the half shafts. I've looked on paddocks website and they're not showing it. phone call required. if they don't have it, I got mine from Dingocroft in downley, High Wycombe, they do mail order too.

I think it's the same as the series in which case the part number is 236632. You'll have to reshim the pinion to set the bearing preload.
