I have a Range Rover p38, January 2000, It has a remarkable history of being loved from day one. I was fortunate to obtain this vehicle in February 2015 from the gentleman who had it all it's life, Lets call him Mr Smith, as that was his name. In respect of him I have done all I can to keep and indeed improve this car.
However I can not seem to 'cure' the suspension.....When I bought it, it would take 2 minute to raise to it running position after standing for two weeks...but during daily use would go straight to position in a second.

I have replaced the Compressor, I have replaced all four air-bags with 2011 upgrades by Arnott, I have replaced the tank with a top grade Stainless steel one (original tanks are no longer available new, the SS one is to a much higher spec than the original) after all that it now takes 4 minutes after standing and loses air after a few hours (12 seconds to raise) can any one help or is the normal
 
Everyone on here usually just tell you to fit springs. Fit springs, fit springs, that is the only reply on here.:rolleyes:
 
If your leaving it for 2 weeks then its normal as the air tank will be empty as the car with try to keep leveling its self until the tank is empty. If its taking that long on a daily basis then you have a leak go look for the how to check your air suspension guide on here.

The P38 doesn't use any stored air for re-leveling as it will only level downwards to its lowest corner.

Air will eventually escape the receiver over time....how long that takes depends on the condition of the hose joins and joints....but a healthy compressor will take around 8 minutes to re-fill the tank.

Try running it with the door open for 10 minutes or so, then close the door and select a ride height, she should jump up.

The reciever should retain a decent air charge for a few days I'd say, anyhting longer than a week and you may need to top up the tank before it responds with speed.

And battery acid! :eek: Don't forget to swill out with battery acid in case his mouth decides to run off again! :confused:

You will NEVER hear an LZ professional utter those dirty, filthy, racist (against air) words! Aaack, sp.... Sp....sp... It's no use, I can't even say those words :p

Seriously though, I just rebuilt pump and valve block. The speed at which my car now rises up is scary o_O One day, I fear I will be thrown against the roof :D

Forgot to mention I had a serious air leak! Valve block to air tank pipe was melted due to exhaust pipe leak. I would look at your "O" ring seals in case one has been "nipped" and is leaking. A spray bottle filled with soapy water and squirt into any pipe orifices to see if any Bubbles appear.

Mine's been up on stands for weeks now and air-tank is still full? Got a guage on it! Think it only lowers when it self-levels so no need for air.

I'd be checking the connectors with soapy water and maybe the drain plug on the reservoir.

if you modify the power feed to the delay relay. When you switch the key off it completely kills the system and stops the becm down levelling..thus not needing to lift back up to drive level.
 
How. Just what i need. :)

Don't modify anything. If you have a corner dropping to the bump stops you have a leak. Find and fix it. The ECU wakes up every six hours to level and should only level by up to 8 mm at a time. A 15 mm drop in 24 hours is acceptable and within specs. Levelling depends on what sort of ground the car is parked on.
 
Mine dont drop a lot but it goes through some sort of sequence when i get out as if its trying to find a level its happy with but calnt just get it right so it keeps clicking and puffin for about 10sec. Other than that alls well

That is what it is supposed to do. Self levelling takes place for 20 seconds after the ignition is switched off. If a door is opened it will stop then continue when the door is closed until the 20 second period ends or the car is level whichever comes first. The ECU wakes up every six hours and self levels for 20 seconds. Parked on level ground maximum drop of any corner in this period of levelling should be no more than 8 mm. So basically if someone parked on level ground overnight finds his car on the bump stops in the morning it is NOT self levelling that has caused it unless the timer relay is shot and waking the ECU up too often.

wammers has a good point, only do this if your sure there are no leaks via your air bags!! Thank god I dont and mine will sit all week if left and won't drop and inch or millimetre!!

That mod is a waste of time and is not at all needed IF your system is working properly. I hate it when people invent solutions that are not needed to mask a problem rather than repair it properly. Bit like the logic applied when having a slow puncture in one tyre and putting holes in the other three so they all go flat at the same time. :(
