Got a bit of a starnge one here.
Everytime i get in the car in the morning (or anytime its been standing for a while), the clutch for the first 10-15mins is really juddery.
After this time is goes back to being perfect. I asked my mechanic when it was last in to have a look, but nothing came to light.
Its almost like something is leaking onto the clutch, then it gets burnt off, however it takes the same amount of time to stop being juddery whether its been sitting for a night or 3 weeks. I have just had it serviced, it never lost any oils etc, so dont think its that anyway.
Master cylinder isnt leaking, fluid level remains at constant height, pedal always feels the same etc.
I cant think what to do. The initial juddering does however seem to be getting a little worse over time, before it goes back to being fine again.
This happens everytime the car is left standing without exception.
They only real solution i can see to fix the problem is rip the gearbox out, replace the clutch, check flywheel etc, however i dont have the funds to replace as its not completly broken as yet.
Its just really starting to annoy me, and i hate driving it for the first 20 mins of my day!!
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers

My clutch is often juddery first thing in the morning when initially setting off. But is fine after that. Id be interested in hearing of any causes/solutions also.

do you have a wading plug fitted to the bellhousing?----- if so take it out and see if any oil comes out of the hole (or put a container under the hole overnight) if any oil comes out then you'll have to find where it's coming from,

Ok, will have a look at that. Think its all dry though.

As i said, its no different if its been sitting for 2 weeks or over night. It still judders the same, and takes the same amount of time to sort itself out.

If it was an oil leak, surely it would be worse the longer its been sitting?

its all down to general wear and tear on the clutch plates some cheaper clutch plates tend to get paurus when worn down a little as the cheaper ones use a less dense type of friction pad whereas the more expensive ones are harder and wont judder as much
and as the nights are getting colder and a little more damp these days it may just be a little moisture collected on the plates overnight and being rubbed off first thing causeing a litle slip or judder nothing much to worry about its just the way they are

I looked into this when i bought mine some months ago, I was told that its down to the clutch plates and not a fault. Until you warm up the plates they will not work efficiently. ten mins into a drive and the plates are sufficiently warmed up to gain better grip. seemed to make sense to me so stopped worrying.

yep, that does make sense. It does seem better when i pull a double axel trailer (1.3 ton empty) straight from cold, so this would make sense as they would warm up faster. It takes me 20 mins i guess, as i practically go straight onto a dual carriage way and the clutch doesnt really get much friction.

Cheers for the info on that chaps
