Hi all, looking for your thoughts please? I have just had a call from the garage to say my discovery (td5) is ready for collection. Now they say they have replaced the clutch but not the flywheel as the mechanic said it was ok, they have however replaced the master and slave cyilinders for the clutch, these I dont have a problem with, but I said I wanted the flywheel changing as they were in there and it's done 110k miles. Now I'm in a dilemma, it's working again, but how longs the flywheel going to last? Has anyone else replaced a clutch with such miles without doing the flywheel? What do you think I should do?

Thanks, gareth, in a slight panic

as above there best done at the same time ,dualmass fly wheel is the damper instead of springs in clutch plate and unless obviously knackered arent easy to tell how long it will last

Yup if you asked them to change it they should have done it the only way they will now do it is if you refuse to pay unless its done and without the extra hours

Thanks for the advice, think I'm now going to have to go and have an awkward conversation.

After some discussion it's booked in two weeks to have the fly wheel fitted. He did say not to believe everything you read on the Internet fourums

Doesnt make sense for you not to it does for him as in a few months a year he will be charging you to remove the box again besides its not the point if you ask a painter to paint a wall and he doesnt do it as it didnt need done your gona be ****ed

Di a job on a mk5 astra diesel awhile back and the guy wouldn't pay for the flywheel to be replaced when i did the clutch, again looked ok and there wasn't really alot of play in it. had to go back in 5 months later to replace the the flywheel as it gave up. As others have said, if you asked to have it done then they should of done it. Free fitting should be on the cards here
