Help to choose a Road Tyre for 16 inch rim

Hello all.
I suppose there are dozens of conversations about tyres. But I am after ROAD tyres. I basically dont off-road my defender much. I'd also like to keep my present rims, the current tyres are 265/75/R16 with Discoverer STT tyres.
Lots of the newer road-based defenders have different rim sizes. What can I put on a 16 inch rim that will be quieter, better fuel economy and road holding? I'm overseas, dont get snow or ice either. Heres a photo showing my present set up; I'm hoping to lower the suspension back to "normal" or 1 inch low. THANKS for advice!

Um. I searched the forums, as I said lots of posts about tyres, but I cant find one specifically about road tyres...? I have found "best off road tyres" "best snow tyres" "freelander" tyres and on and on, but not my question. Is this the wrong place to post this? I cant see a "tyre" forum...?

My father had 7 Land Rovers. I learnt to drive in a Series III. I have never owned a car. When I was young I spent half my time helping my Dad do everything to the vehicle. We had new a chassis. re-bores. welding door posts. Put a fairy overdrive in the series 3. Two re-sprays. Why should I buy a car? Modern cars have no character, no feel, no style, they are all but indistinguishable. I now live in a place where a 4wd vehicle is not needed, but I can afford one at last, where people show off with the latest BMW, Ferrari, Porsche. Lamborghini's are common. There are about 30 Land Rovers in the whole place, Mine is a 21 year-old rebuilt ex police vehicle with history.
That's why I drive a Defender.
And I want decent road tyres.

Dear KevinHK,

When I got mine they put a matching set of General Grabber TR on my 110 which I think are the original equipment. (it had a miss mash on when I 1st saw her).
There is the General Grabber GT which is purely a road tyre as far as I know.

Other than that I would pick any of the high end car brands (Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear) as see what your local stockist carries.

Pirelli Scorpion ATR anybody?
 
NanoTea - thanks. I was thinking in that direction. I'm making a list of recommended ideas, then cross-checking with what is actually available in my country. Our transport dept also has rules, I may be unwise to change the rims, so I've prob no choice but to stay on the original 16 inch. Any tyre shop here that sees my vehicle immediately wants to sell me AT or Mud tyres!
 
The issue you're going to have is that a tyre with those dimensions is generally deigned and constructed in such a way as to be compliant off road. You should look for a van/commercial tyre but be sure to check the legalities in your country with regard to speed rating and so on.
