I have a problem where the light for the diff lock is not on but the diff is not disengaging does any one now how to free the diff or is it a garage job.

Thanks,

Trevor.

Hi fox,i doubt the diff itself is faulty.Sure its not just a switch/dash light problem? If the transfer lever is jamming, try a good oiling from inside the car, down through the tunnel gaiter, then a dose of brute force to free it off.Would i be right to say the diff lock aint been used for a while?mucky`un.

Thanks mucky`un,
Half a can of wd40 from underneath and from the by the tunnel gator and yes a bit of hard work and it is now working, the car has never been used for off roading before and i don't think the diff had ever been used.

Thanks again,
Trevor.:D :D :D

Hi Fox,you`re welcome, glad it worked for you.I`m not sure now if you mentioned what landy you have? mucky`un.

You've never used your DIFF! It should be put into diff and given a spin every now and again, it helps keep the gears lubricated and helps stop the diff getting stiff like you found.

Thanks to,
Chris Jones & mucky`un I have managed to get it sorted.
mucky`un I Drive a 1998 discovery tdi.
discomania I have not had the car that long so I will have to blame the previous owners for not using the diff and as you said from now on it will be getting a little work out every month or so.

Thanks again for your help and comments,
Trevor.
