hi all just got back from towing wifes freelander 99 l series .123000 miles
the metal ring that goes around the vcu damper well i think its a damper
as come adrift pushed it back on but wont stay on i see there is a part you can get rather than buy the whole vcu unit are they easy to do also do you have to change te prop shaft bearings as well. is there a reason for this to happen i no metal to rubber is not a very good bond over time many thanks

ah cum on Cremator. Yu have been around long enuf to know its a crap design!.

yup - yu can get the damper from Ebay - easy job - 3 bolts, i think. No need to do VCU bearings at the same time, but while yu have the VCU off.......???

Why not go Mondo mode and save yoself a lot of hassle?

hi how easy a job is it only my garage wants to charge £500 to do damper and bearings how easy to go mondo mode many thanks

£500 sounds a huge amount. Bearing replacement is covered in the Q's and A's section - not sure of thread. the damper is, as stated, 3 bolts.

To go Mondo mode - just remove one of the propshafts to the VCU. - about 1/2 hour?

never fitted one myself, but its cheeper than a new vcu, so if your vcu is good then its a no brainer [sold on flea bay] its reccomended to change the bearings , but if they seem ok then no need , test with a pry [lever] you get a bit of movement but nothing exstreem [its a knowledge thing] oh un best oh luck :) :) :)

:hysterically_laughi oh dear - it'll be hand-cuffs and ball gag next! Watch out for the nipple clamps!!

On a serious note I don't think there's any max length of time that you can run it like that - although it's debatable as to whether you'd be covered insurance wise if the worst were to happen.....

....Then she'd really bring out the punishment tools!

hi thank u i am now typing from the cage help so if i need to replace the vcu damper do i need to remove the vcu completely och och och

I took off my complete propshaft (front and rear) and VCU and been driving mondo mode 2 years now (50 000km) no problem. I let insurance know, and it is noted as such on my policy, so I am covered. Then you can drive and decide to fix when it suits you. Just remember you are now driving a front wheel drive vechicle and not a 4 x 4, so handling will be different, especially in wet weather. Not a problem where I live, as it hardly ever rains here.
:rolly:
