Hi, been to a pay n play today in a defender 90 2.5tdi all well no trouble good day, washed n cleaned down everywhere!!
Driven the hour n 20min again no bother,
Parked outside house to remove belongings and I notice a very dim interior, checked indicators, headlamps, spots, n work light!
No indicators, dim headlamps, 1 out of 4 spots n no work light,
After turning engine off complete electric failure?
Noting on the ignition at all, no lights or anything?
Any suggestions please??
Ps radio playing up on way home ie on and off!
Thanks guys

Alternator not charging, battery knackered, loose battery cable or earth strap snapped.

Checked all connections! All seem good, won't harm things trying the jump leads will it?

Unless you have decent quality jump leads leave the leads connected for 5 mins before trying to start yer landy or else yer leads will melt.

With the engine running your alternator should be kicking out around 13.8 to 14.5 volts

Would connecting batteries via jump leads ingage immobiliser light on dash or anything else?

No but if your battery is flat you may need to resynch your fob by pressing the lock button about 5 times until it responds.

Immobiliser light on! Fob working but not enought power to start, can just hear a ticking!!!
Is it just a waiting game with jump leads on till enough power?

What engine do you have Andy? I moved my alternator to the top of the engine (200 tdi) for exactly this reason.

Bingo!!!:high5::tea:Many thanks:tea:started been ticking over turned off and restarted as normal! all round check very loose socket to spot light relay, another light relay not secure where it should be and 1 out of 4 spots not working! Different 1 to the only working 1 earlier?

Alright pal:tea:the same 200tdi lump! I will look in to that!
Don't know if it don't sound like a short circuit that's drained all power with the dodgy relay!

are there any common problems to be aware of when repositioning alternator, the prob is alternator/battery rather electrical fault after all....my ignorance n lack of experience!
£85 for recon alternator....is this right?

This is where mine is now Andy it is about 13" higher than before.
