ok guys heres a good one for you all to get yer heads round... i had a dodgy connection on nearside brake light so was jiggling it around (as you do) and all of a sudden i got three bongs from dash and all lights came on then went off! when i tried to start it, NOTHING!!! and nothing since :( all dash lights come on at position II then immediately go out and engine wont start, it doesnt even turn over i have checked all the fuses and the only one that has blown is F5 in the engine compartment this controlls the engine cooling fan its a 40A fuse would this be the cause of my problem (cant get one till morning) or is it deeper than that? please help, i dont want to have to drive my girlfriends astra :'(

This is an 03 facelift model dont know if this has any bearing....

give a good charge to the battery before you do anything else...by the way, was the car locked with alarm on while you messed with that wire?

no car was open and ignition on, battery showing 12volts! :( none of it makes sense, how can a brake light cause so much misery?

it's irrelevant that it shows 12V without load... see how much it shows when you turn ignition on...if it fails under 10V the car will not start
