Help please (noise)

Hi huys, i need some help on my 300tdi disco 1996

I have a noise and have managed to locate it but I dont know what the thing its on is.

It has a pipe connected to the 'break servo' the pipe runs up and under the vent area then down into this thing.

The 'thing' is next to the lift pump and below (not exactly) the fuel filter.

The 'thing' is connected to the engine block.

I hope ive described it ok... In not a mechanic although I do have basic skils and common sense.

Anybody know what this is ?

The problem seems to be a split / hole in it underneath and when you switch the car of and get under the bonnet it makes a bubbling / boiling noise. At first I thought it was hot oil but on putting my finger under the tone changes so I assume its air leaking.

I think I may have just got it.

Would this cause a ticking when speeding up ?

Also do you know if there easy to replace and how much they cost.

Is there any special tools needed.. bleeding etc or is it simply unbolt and replace ?

Yes it will tick when knackered.

Easy to replace. just undo the bolts. fit new one and do bolts back up (don't forget to buy and stick on a new gasket while you're at it).

No special tools needed.

£70 -£180 depending on where you go.

I dont get what you mean so no.

Im replacing it because its broke and I want to drive my car without the tick tick whine noise.

Brake Vacuum Pump ERR3539

On the below picture the thing that is hissing is the lip to the right where them 6 screws are. Im assuming theres a gasket of something in there. Is that servicable or is this a throw away part to be replaced new ?

I replaced the pump today and one problem is resolved which was the pump making a hiss (like compressed air escaping) after engine shut off.

BUT ......................

The ticking remains.
Theres no tick if im parked up and revving but as soon as I get going the ticking gets faster as I get faster, also theres what sounds like a rather loud turbo whistle which is appears the same time as the ticking the goes when the ticking goes.
It still sounds like its coming from the same side as the vacumm pums is on.


Any ideas ??

Noticed some smoke when revving appering from behind the rocker cover area. Could this indicate a new exaust is needed and if so would a broken exaust make a tick ticking (putt putt) noise and also cause the turbo to make a louder than normal whistle.
