Hi all, I bought my first land rover yesterday!!! A 1988 90, it had been tinkered with a bit but the only major thing is the previous owner put a 200tdi engine in. I've driven it for 2 days and looked under the bonnet to find a leak out of the seal around the head gasket, it's not too much of a leak but enough to notice. Is this going to cost loads to fix? Have I bought a duff? My brother in law knows quite a bit about engines and he said it shouldn't be too bad but I just wanted to make sure.

Am I over reacting or do I really need to worry?

doesnt sound like you've brought what you class as a 'duff' just make sure you get it checked out by someone who knows what their doing and it shouldn't be a problem

Land rover don't leak, they mark the territory. Don't worry

Hahahaha cheers lads!! I sorted the problem, rocker gasket had been put on with normal bathroom silicon so I went to Green Brothers and bought a proper gasket £7.80!! Problem solved (fingers crossed) and I actually laughed out loud at the 'mark they're territory' comment GENIUS!!

And I'm from Wardle originally but now reside in sunny Spotland! Near the stadium.

Cheers lads made my day a lot more enjoyable with those comments hahaha

A thing about defenders is if something one it is designed to keep liquidy things contained it will leak out. It it is designed to keep liquidy things out it will leak in. It is a general rule. Don't worry about it. End of the day it is just a gasket replacement.

Td4 2005 face lift model.
