Anyone fancy giving me a hand replacing a Disco1 rear cross member - I got all the gear (but no idea ). Needs to be done by October :(.

Anyone done it before and can give me a guiding hand - usual beers n stuff available.

Its no an easy job, had 6 days of welding and plating to do on a friends Disco for test last summer. Cutting the old one out isn't so bad but you need to remove the bumper and support the weight of body by propping wood between the top of the door and the chassis, also need to place a piece of wood across the rear door opening to keep it right or you'll find the door wont fit afterwards. All in all if you havent got a lot of help and a good knowlendge of welding I wouldn't recommend it, if its possible to plate then plate it. We had no choice with Montys.

all i do is cut all the ****e off that corrodes along the edge under the back door, weld in a piece of 4x2 box section (63" long),then the body mounts are easy as well, piece of 2x2 box welded onto the chassis body mounting and welded to the underneath of the other box section. takes me 8hrs to do a decent job.

Sound a lump easier than what i had to do, took me approx 2 days on my own chopping the old one out and assembling and welding a new one from YRM.
If i ever have to do another i'll try your way, thanks for that
