Hi peps. i have a 96 p38 range rover 2.5 bmw diesel manual. all standard including the air suspension.

i have a shake.
feels more from the steering wheel but the whole car shakes.
when i am accelerating it is fine. when i lift off the throttle it starts to shake. if i lift off at 60mph it shakes a little, the lower the speed the worse it gets.

the barkes seem fine.
the engine seems fine.
the gearbox seems fine.

i don't know much about 4x4's but normal cars are easy to fix. i think it may be suspension or drive train.

is this a common problem, any ideas, any ideas or area's to look.
in the morning i am going to grease all the uj nipples. (did not know it had them)

many thanks keith

I would look at the dampers on your front axle, steering and suspension, then the suspension bushes on the front radius arm.

I might not be obvious if they are worn enough to cause the symptoms described though, and even after replacement you may find the problem lies elsewhere, but a good place to start.

Start with the obvious, have the wheels checked and ballanced first off, does the shake happen under braking? if so it could be warped discs, have a look at the UJ's see if there are any red rusty marks around the 4 cups, if there is they could well be the cause of you shudder.

Had similar problems on a Series III Land Rover which turned out to be UJ a UJ problem, funnily I noticed the same thing on my 94 P38 which I picked up at the weekend. It doesn't seem to bad at the moment but I was going to start by checking the UJ

It was the uj firstly i greased all uj's and it worked a treat. and drives nice now. but i have noticed a little play in a uj and will replace it at the weekend
