I bought an 04 plate td4 HSE about 3 weeks ago. The misses loves it. But I've noticed a few little weird things taht I'm sure is a signal that something is wrong, at relatively low speeds the gear stick vibrates back and for quite a lot, also on full lock turning in a circle it seems to make a weird graunching noise and even if facing down hill a little bit, when you dip the clutch it slows to a halt quite quickly, it will free wheel in a straight line ok but not on full lock. I've had 4x4 cars before and a range rover and never experianced this. Is there likely to be a bearing or something gone or worse still and issue with teh tranfer box? Any help would be much appreciated. We paid a little extra and had a 12month warranty with it. Dealer reckons it's teh same company that does the proper landrover warranty. So fingers crossed if theres a problem I can just stick it in a garage and get it done!

Thanks in advance for any help

I'll look up teh tipex method and see what I find. On looking around for vcu information I notice it says taht after a certain year they altered the ratio anyway. So fingers crossed it's just normal, having never driven another one I woudln't know if mine is fine or not. It's the gear stick wobbling tahts bothering me more than anything. Tyres seem fairly evenly worn too.

lumpy tickover ,,,sounds like you have a dirty injector= use injector cleaner

graunching noise,,,get the wheels off, check brakes, and cv s joints

I have that 'graunching' noise on mine when I turn a tight circle. Got it booked in with my mechanic for next Thursday to investigate. We knocked the dealer down a couple of hundred quid when we bought it because I didn't know how much it was going to cost to sort out. If CV joints need replacing how much will this cost approximately? I've got a 1999 3 door 1.8 hardback.

It doesn't mater what year the car is, the VCU can seize and destroy your IRD. Check it quickly, if it is seized and you have to drive it take it off complete with prop shafts and just use front wheel drive.
