Help guys.
I remember reading on here about somebody fitting the Mondeo leccy fan to their Defender, but I can't find that thread now- dun a search :-(
I've fitted a Mondeo fan from a mk3 1.8 petrol to mine & its gone in really tidy- looks OEM :)
But I can't get it to run without blowing fuses...
most annoying.
Not sure if its a faulty fan motor or my faulty connection/ wiring.
Could someone who has done this mod tell me which connections on the fan they used?
There are 3 spades, checked with multimeter & can only see a single speed motor (unless the other speed has gone OC)
I can get the fan to suck or blow.... :)
but not without blowing fuses.

thanks

How have you got it wired in? Fans can draw a fair amount of current when they first start up - it's best to wire it through it's own fuse and feed, and switch it via a relay.

Thanks 4 the quick reply Instant...
I had it wired direct (no relay) using the X-eng fan stat as they said it could switch 17A. I thought that should be enough.
Maybe it draws more on start..
Fuses last a good 15-30 seconds before spattering to infinity & beyond....
Started to wire in a relay tonight using the original feed as the relay trigger.
i need to pick up a 30A source from somewhere now.
Any ideas for a quick easy source in the engine bay rather than have to go back all the way back to the battery under the mats/ carpets..

thanks

I've also got the X-Eng thermostat - just haven't fitted it yet!

I have a seperate bus-bar behind the passenger seat connected directly to the battery with heavy duty cable. I then take any extra power feeds through an auxilliary fusebox and run new cable - I know it sounds like a drag, but my car has had enough bodges to the wiring already - it doesn't need me doing more!

You could always use a multi-meter to see what your fan is drawing on start-up.

I'd be keen to see how your fan looks in situ - I've been looking at the Kenlow fans but they're a lot of money for what they are.

Ian.
