Defender 110 broke down today help needed please.
On my way home I lost drive but I managed to slowly drive it home with diff lock on. As it was dark couldn't do much or see much apart from I did notice that without diff lock on the front prop was spinning away but not driving the wheels - does it sound like front diff, drive members, have gone or could it be something else? Just wanted some ideas where to start when the sun comes up.

When diff or cv let go it's normal to hear/feel a crunchy sound,drive flange a rasp and a shaft with clean break just goes quite.

I am afraid it is Kwakerman.43 years of working and playing with Land Rovers,but to be fair most bust's have been when cross country vehicle trialing where vehicles are pushed hard.
Have broken diffs in the following ways.
1 stripped crown and pinion teeth. [most common]
2 snapped all bolts holding crown to carrier.
3 cross shaft broken.
4 bevel gear teeth broken.
5 Diff carrier in snapped in half.
6 Half shaft self welded into bevel gear as it twisted like a candy stick.
7 Pinion shaft snapped. [ Get a wobble in the prop with this one ]

All good fun.:)

Ah well I suppose that isn't to bad over that amount of time especially considering you are in West Wales and probably only got some roads after the bridge went in :D:D
