Help it won't start

Series 3 2.25 petrol

Turn the engine over there is a click but there is nothing getting to the starter motor

I think the starter motor solenoid has gone but could be completely wrong

Any one with any thoughts

is the battery well charged ?

Loads of juice

any volts across the starter, or starter side of the solenoid ?

Have you tried the old trick of hitting the starter with a piece of wood

Yep when I turn the key I get power across the other side of the solenoid

I don't think it's the starter motor as it relatively new but I will give it a hit

so have you got volts at the starter ?

you either have or you haven't - it's a yes or no answer

The starter earths through its mount through the engine SO check the battery negative lead to the starter casing with a multimeter to make sure that you have a good earth

OR

Use a jump lead from your negative terminal on your battery to a good earth point on the engine - if the starter operates your engine earth strap needs sorting out

Have you checked the starter cable is not broken? Same happened to me a few months ago. I founld the lug holding the starter motor cable had broken.

simple way of testing this out just short the 2 terminals out on top of the solenoid if the starter works the solenoid is knackered if not itll be your engine earth strap
